Sevenload - a Nice Service, but…
March 26th, 2007
I recently just heard about Sevenload, so I decided to swing over there and check it out. My first impressions were that this is a nice media distribution company, and it is based in Germany. It could be the YouTube of Germany, or Europe for that matter.
It allows you to share photos, videos and has a more complex community aspect than YouTube.
The problem I have with this company is that it is taking what seems to be a political stance against the United States. I saw a link that sent me to this page on Guantanamo Bay. If the company doesn’t have a particular viewpoint on this issue, then they wouldn’t have devoted a whole “specials” section to it.
Regardless of what the founders or CEO thinks of Guantanamo Bay, the company itself should not be doing things like this. It may just be a move for attention, and if that’s the case it’s sad, but it worked.
I’m not the biggest fan of the war in Iraq, or President Bush for that matter. But most, if not all of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay are from Afghanistan and where in some way connected with Al-Qaeda and the Taliban regime, and to those people I have no sympathy. They are the scum of the Earth and they are being treated better than they probably should be.
So this German company tries to make a splash by following the German line that is against the United States on various issues and some are legitimate, but Guantanamo Bay in my opinion is not one of those issues. What this site will do is infuriate the uneducated population of Europe that will see the pictures and comments they have up and come to a quick conclusion that was fostered to be biased from the get-go.
I will NOT be visiting Sevenload again, and I urge you all to do the same.

Dear Dave,
we understand your concern that uneducated people might feel infuriated by what happened at Guantanamo. Let me assure you, though, that we do not feel we have a stance against America. We feel it is our duty to offer an unbiased access to topics that spring up in our community. In the wake of the Saddam execution video, the topic became part of the extended discussion on our site. We created a special to allow users to comment on both sides of the story. no more and no less than that. We only believe in a citizen’s web of open discussion. However, we have withdrawn the special as this discussion has now passed it’s prime and we are reflecting on a balanced way to lead that discussion. We cordially invite you to join in!
Best, Sevenload.
