You Never Known What Life Can Bring

October 27, 2008 at 10:56 am

An event happened today, on my way to the office, that made me realize just how unpredictable life is.

I was driving on 95 South on my way to the office and I was behind a flat-bed truck. The truck had a car on it’s bed and one in tow behind it. As we both headed into the right line to get off the exit something crazy and unexpected (atleast to me) happened.

The car that he was towing back left wheel came flying off the car. It rolled across all four lanes of highway traffic missing every car. At that very moment, I thought, crazy how that tire didn’t hit a car and do a little damage with all of these cars on the road.

Well, as it turns out, this wasn’t the end. The tire hit the jersey barriers seperating the highway. The tire immediately went flying into the air about 40-50 feet and came crashing down right on the windshield of an 18-wheeler tractor trailer headind Northbound on 95.

The truck’s windshield smashed into what appeared to be a million pieces and the lights and horns that where on the roof of the cab came flying off into traffic. I was heading in the opposite direction so I did not get a great look at the extent of the damages but it did appear that the driver of the truck maintained control of the big rig and didn’t jack-knife it.

Imagine that. Here we have a trucker who is as middle-class as they come. Working hard for his money to support his family, doing the same thing he’s been doing for 16 years, driving Northbound on 95 to make a delivery.

And then, out of nowhere, a tire falls out of the sky crashing down onto your cab. Just like that your life can change and it can come from anywhere, even a tire coming down from the heavens…

If the driver of the truck did maintain his heading and didn’t swerve or jack-knife he definitely saved lives, and I don’t know how he managed to do that. There is no way he saw it coming, it came right down onto his cab, he didn’t drive into it.

Amazing, scary and yet eye opening…

New Homepage - Moving in a Different Direction

October 18, 2008 at 1:06 am

I just changed my blog/homepage design, pretty dramatically. I wasn’t as happy as I thought when I originally created the bland black/white design.

I like to keep things simple, but I also like a good design, and this design is much better, in my opinion.

I’ve also integrated Twitter. I’m now displayed (above my blog posts) my latest five tweets. I post much more to Twitter (not that those are any more useful or relevant) but it’s a much better way to keep up on me.

Blogging takes effort & time. All of my effort & time are in other places. Twitter takes neither.

Anyways, feel free to leave some feedback on the new design.

A Better iPhone Will be Here Friday

September 9, 2008 at 8:52 pm

If you read my blog or my twitter you’ll know that sometimes I’m scared to use my iPhone because that use might kill the battery and I might miss something more important later in the day.

I’ve bitched and moaned about it since the day I got the new one. Whenever someone asks me how I like it I tell them it would be a great phone if I could use it all day.

Just read that there might be some relief from all of the stress it has caused me.

Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) announced a 2.1 software update for iPhones at its event in San Francisco today that “fixes lots of bugs,” Steve Jobs said. The improvements promised with the update, which will be released Friday, include fewer dropped calls, longer battery life, fewer crashes due to application use and a speedier backup on iTunes.

Oh yeah, I NEVER had a problem with the 3G reception before, oh maybe 2-3 weeks ago. Now it doesn’t work, at all, anywhere. Not in Pawtucket, not in Providence not in Boston.

So, once they fix the battery problem I still have something to drive me nuts. It’s still a good start, lets just see how well it actually fixes it.

I Need Your Help!

I need a Boxee invitation. If you have one please send me an email: david at mofuse.com

It will be greatly appreciated. I’m building my own HTPC, it’s going to be running Ubuntu and I’d like to play around with Boxee.

I originally tried asking my Twitter followers, but once again they showed me that they’re good for nothing. I very rarely get @replies to my open tweets. I have about a 100 followers if memory serves me correctly. Maybe I need more?

Follow me on Twitter.

Back to the subject. I’m building a Home Theatre PC for my living room and I need a Boxee invitation. If you got one, email me, I will greatly appreciate it. (Of course I’m going to write a post about me building an Ubuntu HTPC for $200).

Update: Thank you to Andrew Kippen for coming through.

Top Mobile Device Manufacturers Accessing the Mobile Web

September 2, 2008 at 11:59 pm

At the end of every month we take a look at all of the data from the MoFuse Network (I personally am constantly looking at it). From that data we create internal reports for our own use.

I just thought I’d share some of this information with you, so I made a nice little pie chart from some of that data. Here you have the breakdown of the top 10 mobile device manufacturers that have accessed the mobile web from the United States in August 2008.

With all of the iPhone hype and those bloated numbers I constantly read, Apple, with 3 mobile devices now, is still 3rd in the US, albeit a close 3rd.

Just to clarify, this chart was created using only data collected from the MoFuse network.
