This is Pretty Funny/Sad…

March 6, 2008 at 1:33 am

We recently redesigned the user dashboard over at MoFuse and part of that redesign we’re asking our users a question after they login, do you like the redesign? We then have a comment box where any user can leave a comment.

We’ve gotten nothing but great feedback on the redesign and excellent comments and all of them are exclusively positive, except one. This is where the story gets interesting/funny.

I come home tonight and decided to go through the survey results and like I said before all of the comments are positive, except for one, it just says you suck ass. So I decided I was going to reach out to this user and see what about MoFuse they think sucks ass so that we could better serve them in the future. I was writing the email to the user when I decided to investigate further — check his blog and mobile site to see if there was something obviously wrong before I blindly ask.

In the course of doing this it turns out that this user holds a senior position at a new competitor. This got me chuckling, my opinion of this company that is trying to compete against us has quickly dropped, and not just because of this.

This company is also paying bloggers to write reviews about them, something I find very wrong. It is in my opinion that if you have a solid product bloggers will write about you, if you’re forced or if you’re strategy is to pay people to write about you to get your product recognized then it’s probably time to revisit your product.

My objective here is not to out anyone or any company, I just think it’s all a bit funny and at the same time sad. I hope this is just a few renegade employees and not something this company is officially endorsing… Childish comments on competitors surveys and paying for reviews should not be on the agenda of any web startup…
